Posted on 26. May, 2009 by in SEM, SEO
When embarking on your organic SEO and search placement voyage, your going to need all the help you can get, Well – today, I’m here to give you some.
Let’s start from the very beginning, a brand new project, a brand new domain where do you begin?
- Domain name – Use an ajax tool like DomainsBot – When searching for the perfect domain chances are the first names you come up with are already taken, don’t be discouraged, with an Ajax domain name lookup tool like Domainsbot this process is a lot less frustrating.
- Keywords – Keywords or phrases are the bread and butter of any organic SEO campaign, there are literally hundreds of tools out there that can help you gauge a keywords potential performance within the search engines. I have always used two, Google Adwords Keyword Tool and Wordtracker. The Adword keyword tool is great to quickly identify the traffic vs competition of keyphrases but lacks any detailed information, this is where Wordtracker comes in, Yes – its a paid service but well worth the small monthly or yearly subscription fees, they also have a completely free 7 day trail, perfect if you only plan on optimizing a single site.
- Analytics – So you’ve found your domain and built your site using researched key phrases, the next step is tracking. There are two types of website tracking, real time and delayed. To begin with, a free tool like Google Analytics will do just fine, want a lot more information on your visitors? real time tracking? built in SEO tools? for $99 a month you could use my preferred web analaytic system: VisiStat.
- Google Webmasters Tools – Absolutely essential if you want to be competitive within Google. Everything from backlinks to sitemap submission is here, you cannot skip this completely free tool.
- Keyword Tracking Tools – Again, there’s an abundance of these guys around, if you use a premium web stat service, chances are they already provide this tool, if not, Head over to Beanstalk SEO for there Multiple Keyword Rank tools, check your position under your target key phrases and adjust your campaign accordingly.
Well, thats it for the essentials, next time i’ll go into a little bit more detail for each tool and its role in your search engine campaign. Any questions? comments? suggestions? just leave a note!
